Yesterday I went walking at Jack Pine. Things are mostly green, though there are a few dead trees here and there, and no water in the ponds/swampy areas. (Also, the main parking lot for Lime Kiln is still closed post-fire.)
The critters are still welcoming. ;-)
It was a cooler day and it put me in mind of my favourite season, and so here are a few photos from previous outings as a reminder of what's to come.
A summer's worth of English Ivy has covered most of my house, including doors and windows.
Japanese Maple taken at the Ornamental Gardens. The last time I visited, it was gone.
This was taken at Lime Kiln -- wonder how many of these trees survived the fire.
Mazinaw Lake at Bon Echo Provincial Park. Canoeing is so much better in the fall.
I don't think of fall right now ... in Germany we expect a "Sahara Summer" next week (thats what the newspaper says ;-)
ReplyDeleteThat was fascinating that the squirrles were so tame in Canada ... very cute.
Sahara Summer -- eek, that doesn't sound pleasant. :-O
DeleteAre you getting normal rain? It's been very dry in a lot of places in NA this summer.
We had a very wet June/July (incl. flooded basement), but by now all water barrels in the garden are empty and the farmers are already complaining ... the contrasts are so extreme ...
DeleteYikes. I hope you don't get the drought conditions. Farmers here have lost entire fields this season. :-(
DeleteWonderful set. Hope your next visit to Lime Kiln will show that most of those trees survived.
ReplyDeleteHope so too. Hope we can get in to see the regeneration process.
DeleteUnfortunately that drought really beat up the vegetation. The upside of the fire is that in a few years that section of forest should be in really good shape, all part of the regrowth cycle but ya I'm wondering how bad it looks in there as well. Couldn't agree more about paddling in the fall, the best time to head into the parks, no people, no bugs, great temps and lovely scenery.
